God Loves Gays

Well at least that’s what you’d think after Pope Francis’s recent announcement that we should not judge gays. Growing up in the Catholic church you always heard “Hate the sin, love the sinner”, but that never really was exercised. It was always more like “Hate the sin, hate the sinner even more!”. Now I feel a sin coming on!  Christianity has long condemned homosexuality, but homosexuality has been a part of humanity since the beginning of time. And it seems priests have been caught with younger boys since the beginning of time. Now that’s condemnable! But I digress. With an ever growing shift in views on gay folks it’s time the church recognizes and includes gays and lesbians. The church has long-suffered in popularity from their antiquated views on almost everything. This is just one of the shifts they have needed to make. After all if God hates gays why did he make them so cute? Even most straight people know now that if you’re gay you’re born that way. So if God hates gays why did he make them at all? The fact is homosexuality is a natural part of life. It exists in the animal kingdom as well as humankind. Do zealots think a gay penguin just wasn’t loved enough by his father? Ha! I digress again. It is a wonderful time to be gay. To see the progress that has been made over the past decade. To see happy gay couples being accepted with open arms by their families, friends, and now the church. Anyone can conceive if God is love then God loves everyone. So put your electrified fences away and welcome the gays into your churches. If anything holidays will be more Fabulous!!!

Sail The Gay Seas

Ever wanted to go on a Gay Cruise? My experience:

Gay Cruises are a fun way to explore the world comfortably surrounded by like-minded people. I’ve met some wonderful guys and have made life-long friends. I’ve been on both large and small ships but definitely prefer the larger ships as there’s more room to roam and there are many more venues for entertainment. RSVP and Atlantis are two of the top gay cruises, and both have not disappointed. I would say the main difference is that Atlantis is more of a party cruise while RSVP is a little more laid back, but still fun to say the least. The all-night dance parties are probably my favorite aspect of gay cruises. The DJ’s are world renowned and take you on a journey you’ll never forget. Usually each night has a theme so check your itinerary before packing your bags so you’ll bring the appropriate costumes and accessories. There is usually a celebrity guest or comedian that is kept secret until you arrive on the ship. Joan Rivers was one of my favorite guest comedians! On gay cruises you will meet people from all walks of life and all body types. So don’t be intimidated if you’re not in the best of shape. There’s something for everyone and people are very nice regardless. The ports of call are a great way to stretch your sea legs and there are several excursions you can choose from. If you don’t feel the need to leave the ship, it’s a great time to relax on the deck and read a book. The pool is where it’s at if you like to people watch (crotch watch 😉 But remember to wear your SPF as those long days in the sun can burn you to a crisp. Some say gay cruises are like a floating Circuit Party, but my opinion is that Circuit Parties get a little more out of hand, which is fine when you want to take it there 😉 But in comparison gay cruises are much more tame and more intimate. Hey, you’re all trapped on a boat after all! If you have considered going on a gay cruise I’d say go for it! Do your research and you will not be disappointed. Bringing a group of friends always makes the experience more fun. So get your crew together and make a plan to sail the gay seas!

Butch

June is Gay Pride Month in America

Happy Gay Pride!!

June is Gay Pride Month in America

Obama has officially claimed June as Gay Pride Month!! Something we’ve already been celebrating now for ages. But to get the official recognition from the top is another wonderful addition on our path to equality . Gay Pride month is a time for all of us to take a stand against discrimination, to continue our fight for equality, and to celebrate and support the lives of our gay brothers and sisters. Although Obama has proclaimed that June is officially the LGBT Pride month, June was originally chosen as Gay Pride month in honor of the Stonewall Riots which occurred in 1969. In the early morning of June 28th 1969 members of the gay community in Greenwich Village NY took a stand against the police force who often raided bars where gays gathered. At that moment the community stood together for the first time and said they would take this no more! We’ve made so many strides since that day. I still remember going to gay bars in the early 90’s before Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, DADT. One of the bars was in a military town. Service members would have to duck into a secret room in order to escape the military raids. Yes, gay bars were once raided by the military to entrap service members and have them dishonorably discharged because they were homosexual. These raids were executed to ruin the lives of these honorable people for the simple fact that they loved differently. Those were scary times when you could be arrested for just being gay. We’ve come a long way since then. DADT has been repealed and now service members can live their lives openly. We now have 12 states that recognize gay marriage, and more in line for marriage equality. It’s a beautiful thought that one day being gay won’t be such a vexing issue. As gay men and women we live our lives as any normal person would. Now seeing that other people recognize the normality of our lives gives me renewed hope and restores my faith in our country and it’s direction. So whether you’re gay, straight, or “Inbetween”, show your pride this month. Attend your local pride parade, volunteer your time, get involved, show your community and the world that gay is ok!
Peace,
Butch
